Glencroft Clapdale Wool DK
Glencroft have developed a gorgeous blend of yorkshire fleece to create a unique hank of double knitting weight yarn. Clapdale Wool comes in six shades. Manufactured exclusively by Glencroft from fleeces collected from seven farms within 10 miles of their warehouse in Clapham, Yorkshire Dales.
The Clapdale Wool project was launched to create a fully traceable yarn that benefitted local farmers with help from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Sustainable Development and Farming in Protected Landscapes Funds. Farmers were paid a decent price for their clip and in addition 10% of the profits from the project will also go back to the farms.
The wool contains all the sheep breeds on local farms - Dalesbred, Blue Face Leicester (BFL), North of England Mule and Texel. It has produced a beautiful DK weight yarn with a reasonably soft handle.
The wool is certified as "British Wool Traceable". Glencroft have scoured, carded, combed and spun this wool entirely in West Yorkshire - it has travelled a total of 90 miles from farm to yarn. Due to the nature of the wool they have used, there will be some 'nep' - shorter natural coloured fibres.
Each hank also has a link on the label to three free knitting patterns created by local hand knit expert Sandra Oakeshott, for a bias scarf, child's hat and scarf and fingerless mittens.
